SECTION 1: Planning and Implementation
- On an annual basis, the board reviews a written strategic plan for the organization and approves modifications as necessary to ensure that the plan is current.
- The strategic plan directly relates to and supports the organization's vision and mission.
SECTION 2: Community Outreach, Public Relations and Education
- When making critical decisions regarding the organization's direction and services, the board carefully considers the perspectives of residents/clients/patients, church leaders, civic leaders and other constituents.
- When making strategic decisions, the board accesses professional perspectives about the industry from staff and other resources.
SECTION 3: Financial Oversight
- The board of directors reviews and adopts an annual budget that is clearly related to the strategic plan.
- The board receives and discusses regular financial reports throughout the year in order to monitor and determine budget compliance.
SECTION 4: Oversight and Evaluation of CEO
- The board and chief executive agree in advance upon specific performance targets and the board uses these to conduct the chief executive's annual evaluation.
- The board communicates effectively with the chief executive regarding goals, expectations and concerns.
SECTION 5: Board Effectiveness
- The board regularly evaluates its own performance, as well as the individual performance of each member, to determine the effectiveness of the organization's governance.
- The board develops a plan for continuing board development and performance improvement.
SECTION 6: Individual Self-Assessment
- I fully understand the vision, mission and core values of the organization and periodically review them to ensure they are upheld and carried out.
- I seek to promote the organization's mission and programs in the community.
